Hair Fall in Rainy Season? Causes and Simple Solutions

Hair Fall in Rainy Season: There seems to be hardly a household where hair fall does not occur in monsoons. The humidity present in the air causes weakening of root hair and either breaks it down or prolongs shedding. Accumulated colonies of sweat and dirt could be left clinging to the scalp, causing spots where an attack is expected by either a fungal infection or dandruff, both of which bring about hair loss.

Common Causes of Monsoon Hair Fall

Humidity: Humidity in the air makes hair limp, weak, and fall prone.

Scalp infections: Rainwater and sweat may provide an ideal breeding ground for fungal infections on the scalp. Tying up wet hair and leaving it unattended may weaken the hair shaft.

Nutritional deficiencies: Nutritional deficiencies including hydration could hamper hair health during monsoon.

Excessive build-up from products: The use of excessive styling products and chemical-laden products clogs the pores and suffocates the scalp.

Handy Tips to Control Hair Fall

1. Clean Your Scalp: Wash your hair regularly with a mild, sulfate-free shampoo to remove oil, dirt and sweat. An anti-fungal shampoo can be added once a week if required.

2. Go Light on Conditioning: Heavy conditioners weigh hair down; light, water-based conditioners should be applied only to the ends to avoid breakage.

3. Let Hair Dry Naturally: Never tie hair up when wet. Towel dry or air dry before brushing or styling them.

4. Professionally Done Oil Massage: A massage to your scalp once or twice a week using coconut or argan oil can help strengthen the roots. But remember that keeping the oil for a long time may attract dirt.

5. Food: Stay hydrated and include protein-rich food in your diet, say, in the form of eggs, lentils, and leafy greens.
