How to Do Ganesh Sthapana at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

Ganesh Sthapana: The festival of Lord Ganesha, Ganesh Chaturthi, infuses households with happiness, devotion, and optimism. Correct execution of Ganesh Sthapana is regarded as auspicious and guarantees blessings for wisdom, prosperity, and serenity. This straightforward, step-by-step tutorial will assist you in doing it at home.


1. Clean the Space:
It is very important to clean the entire house and especially the place where the idol will be placed. Neatness and the purity of surroundings is the symbol of the pure mind. Decorate the house with the lights and flowers. Place a clean red or yellow cloth on the wooden plank and decorate it with the rangoli and flowers. This plank is going to be the sthapana place for Ganapathi.

2. Place the Idol
Check the muhurat and bring the Ganesh idol to home. Until the pooja and the sthapana completes cover the Ganesh idol eyes with a clean cloth. It is advised to place the idol facing north, east or northeast and complete the decoration near the platform.


3. Sankalp (Resolution)
Take a Sankalp (Resolution) before starting the pooja. It is good to use a cooper round glass during this pooja, as this resembles the authenticity and the purity. Dedicating the rituals to seek blessings from lord Ganesha for you and for your family’s well-being.

4. Pran Pratishtha (Invoking the Deity)
There are several mantras during this pooja. One of them, which is very famous and very well used, is “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah”. Chant this mantra during the pooja and sprinkle holy water. This shows the importance of the divine energy to the idol and also spreads positivity in the house.

5. Offerings and Puja
Offer durva grass, red flowers, modaks, fruits, and sweets to the deity. Light incense, a diya, and perform aarti with devotion. Recite Ganesh Atharvashirsha or simple bhajans.

6. Daily Rituals
Perform morning and evening aarti, present fresh fruits and flowers, and keep the area sacred throughout the festival days.

Follow these rituals during the sthapana with complete devotion and purity. This pooja is going to show your faith and sincerity to the god. It is good to make it as simple as possible rather than elaborating the process and making it complicated.
