How to Reverse Diabetes: Nutritionist’s Tips for Managing the Condition

How to Reverse Diabetes:
In recent years, there has been increasing awareness that type 2 diabetes might not always be a lifelong condition. Celebrity nutritionist Ryan Fernando, a proponent of reversing type 2 diabetes, suggests that a combination of dietary changes, exercise, and consistent routines can help individuals manage or even reverse the condition, especially in its early stages.

How to Reverse Diabetes:

Dietary Strategies for Diabetes Management

Fernando emphasizes the importance of stabilizing carbohydrate intake. He suggests a “carbohydrate flatline” approach, where meals consist of a consistent amount of carbohydrates to avoid blood sugar spikes. For example, a balanced breakfast with around 60 grams of carbs can help maintain stable insulin levels throughout the day. Fernando points out that irregular eating patterns, such as switching between high-carb and low-carb meals, can overload the insulin system and worsen blood sugar control. By following a steady eating routine, many patients have seen significant improvements in their health, including his own father, who reduced his insulin dependency by adhering to a disciplined food plan and exercise.

Incorporating Resistance Training

While diet plays a crucial role, exercise is also key in managing diabetes. Fernando advocates for resistance training rather than just cardio workouts. Resistance exercises, such as weightlifting or bodyweight training, help build muscle mass, which in turn improves the body’s ability to use glucose. This helps in better insulin sensitivity, making it a powerful tool in diabetes management.

Recognizing the Early Signs of Diabetes

Recognizing the early symptoms of diabetes is critical for timely intervention. Some common early signs include increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, fatigue and persistent hunger. In type 1 diabetes, these symptoms tend to develop quickly and can be more severe. Type 2 diabetes however may develop gradually making it harder to detect in its early stages.

Early recognition and adopting healthy lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet and regular exercise can significantly improve outcomes. While not every case of diabetes can be reversed especially in long term cases many people with early stage diabetes have successfully managed their condition through lifestyle changes.
