Improve Your Eyesight Naturally Without Glasses or Medication

Many people are experiencing eye strain, headaches, and worsening eyesight—even at a young age. Increased screen time and decreased time outside is to blame. While eyeglasses and doctor’s notes are a good start, natural eye exercises can be great for keeping your eye health strong and mitigating daily stress.

Eye exercises are uncomplicated, do not require elaborate equipment, and can be done in a few minutes. It only takes a few minutes of your time each day to save your eyes! Below are some facile examples of eye exercises you can do right now.

1. Palming to Relax Eyes

Rub your hands together until you feel heat. Gently rest your warm palms over your closed eyes without pressing. Keep them there for a minute, breathing deeply. The contact of warmth and darkness allows the eye muscles to relax and calm your mind. This exercise is best done after prolonged screen time.

2. Blink Often to Refresh Eyes

Blinking keeps your eyes moist and healthy. Talking about screens makes people blink less. Blink every 4–5 seconds for two minutes. This will refresh your eyes and keep them from drying out.

3. Use the 20-20-20 Rule

After every 20 minutes of screen time, look away at something 20 feet away from your view for 20 seconds; relax. This elongates the muscles that can focus your vision. This will also help mitigate the effects of digital eye strain from prolonged hours on a computer.

4. Figure-Eight Eye Movements

Select a point in the distance around 10 feet away. Imagine making a sideways “8” (infinity sign) with your eyes.
Trace the shape at a slow speed for 30 seconds, then do it the opposite way.
This exercise helps improve eye coordination and flexibility of the eye muscles.

5. Near and Far Focus

Hold your thumb about 10 inches away from your face. Focus on your thumb for 5 seconds.
Then focus on an object in the distance for 5 seconds.
Repeat this process 10 times to help your eye with a better shift in focus.

6. Eye Rolls for Flexibility

Sit comfortably. Slowly roll your eyes in a circle clockwise, and then roll your eyes in a circle anti-clockwise.
Do this 5 to 10 times clockwise and 5 to 10 times anti-clockwise.
This eye exercise stretches the eye muscles and improves blood circulation around the eyes.

Make Eye Health a Daily Habit

Exercising the eyes on a daily basis will help decrease eye strain, improve vision and strength in the eye muscles.
Even 5-10 minutes per day can become effective over time.
