India’s Top 3 Family Cars Under ₹15 Lakh

India’s Top 3 Family Cars Under ₹15 Lakh

Family Cars: Indian consumers have significantly shifted their preferences in the automobile market over the past few years. They no longer favor hatchbacks and small cars as they once did. Instead, they have steadily increased demand for utility vehicles like SUVs and MPVs. This trend aligns with global market patterns. SUVs now dominate the Indian passenger car segment, and MPVs have also gained consistent traction. Automakers have responded by launching more vehicles in the MPV segment to meet growing demand.

These are the top three MPVs that are most reasonably priced at less than ₹15 lakh and provide the most value.

1. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:

Maruti Suzuki has consistently maintained the Ertiga as the best-selling MPV in India for a long time. The company sells the Ertiga through its Arena retail network, with prices starting at ₹9 lakh (ex-showroom). Both private buyers and fleet operators favor this spacious and practical three-row MPV.

Maruti Suzuki offers the Ertiga with a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain, which enhances cost-effectiveness. The petrol engine, equipped with SHVS technology, adds to the car’s appeal. Buyers often choose this seven-seater MPV for its affordability and strong value proposition, making it one of the most popular models in its segment. Interestingly, Toyota markets the Rumion as a rebadged version of the Ertiga under the Suzuki-Toyota global partnership. Both models share similar features and engineering.

2. Renault Triber:

Renault offers the Triber as one of the most affordable seven-seater vehicles in India. The company sells it alongside the Kwid and Kiger, with prices starting at around ₹6 lakh. A 1.0-liter gasoline engine powers the Triber, and Renault provides both AMT and manual transmission options. Renault recently added a CNG variant to enhance the Triber’s practicality and value for money. Another key highlight is the Triber’s four-star Global NCAP crash test rating, which strengthens its appeal in the budget MPV segment.

3. Kia Carens:
Ascending the price scale, the Kia Carens is an additional choice in India’s sub-15 lakh MPV market. Compared to the other two models in this market, it has a more upscale feel despite being priced in the sub-15 lakh MPV range. It receives a number of modern, upscale characteristics. This MPV is powered by 1.5-liter engines and comes with both gasoline and diesel engine options.
