IRCTC refund rules:
If you have recently faced problems while travelling by Indian Railways such as your train being delayed for more than three hours, the air-conditioning not working or the train being diverted you may be eligible for a refund. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) allows passengers to claim refunds by filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).
When Can You File a TDR?
A TDR can be filed in many situations. For example:
If your train is more than 3 hours late and you choose not to travel, you must file the TDR before the train’s scheduled departure.In case
passenger were moved to a lower class due to coach unavailability or AC failure, you can file the claim within 20 hours after the train reaches your destination.
If your boarding or destination station was skipped due to a route diversion, the TDR must be submitted within 72 hours of the original departure.
How to File a TDR on IRCTC:
1. Visit the IRCTC website ([www.irctc.co.in](http://www.irctc.co.in)) and log in.
2. Go to My Account > My Transactions > File TDR.
3. Choose the ticket (PNR) for which you want to file the TDR.
4. Select the correct reason from the dropdown menu.
5. Pick the number of passengers for the claim.
6. Click File TDR and confirm.
After successful submission, you’ll see a confirmation message.
Time Limits Matter
Each reason has a specific deadline. For example:
For AC failure: file within 20 hours.
If the passenger didn’t travel due to downgrade: file within 3 hours of departure.
For a train cancelled or terminated short of the destination: file within 72 hours.
It’s important to remember that IRCTC does not allow refunds for connecting journey bookings.
