Nashik Kumbh Mela: The sacred Simhastha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years at Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, the origin of the holy Godavari River, is set to begin on October 31, 2026, and conclude on July 24, 2028. The grand spiritual event will commence with the flag hoisting ceremony at Ramkund in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The Kumbh Mela schedule was officially announced during a high-level meeting of saints and mahants chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nashik. The gathering included heads of the 13 major akhadas and key representatives from the priestly community.
In total, 44 holy baths will be held in Nashik and 53 in Trimbakeshwar, including sacred bathing days aligned with auspicious dates such as Ekadashi, Pournami, Amavasya, Vaidhruti, and Vyatipata Yogas.
The Maharashtra government has accepted a suggestion by Mahant Rajendradas Maharaj to refer to ‘Sahni Snan’ as ‘Amritsnan’, following the naming convention introduced at the recent Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, held once every 144 years.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced large-scale development works worth ₹6,000 crore to prepare for the massive spiritual gathering. “We’ve already called tenders worth ₹4,000 crore and will soon invite tenders for another ₹2,000 crore,” he stated, aiming to make this the largest spiritual event in the world.

Fadnavis emphasized learning from past Kumbh Melas and said the government is “using every available moment wisely” to avoid earlier mistakes and provide pilgrims a safe, clean, and spiritually uplifting experience.
The Simhastha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, drawing millions of pilgrims, sadhus, saints, and tourists. Held when Jupiter (Guru) enters the Leo sign (Simha Rashi), the festival symbolizes spiritual purification through holy dips in the Godavari River.
