Real History of Black Friday: How World’s Biggest Shopping Day Truly Began

Real History of Black Friday: Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is one of the busiest shopping holidays in the entire world. Millions await this day to buy products at tremendous discounts. But the real origins of Black Friday are more outlandish than the sale-filled day we know today.

Misunderstood Black Friday Origins

During certain times in 1869, two American financiers were implicated in a scheme to corner the gold market. Their days’ work resulted in a crash of colossal proportions, and the papers decried that fateful Friday as Black. That was no more connected to shopping than with an economic panic.

The second story appears in the 1950s and 1960s in Philadelphia. The day after Thanksgiving arose concerning innumerable shoppers, traffic jams, and tired police officers. The streets were “clogged” with shoppers and visitors coming for the Army-Navy football game. Because of the disorder and shoplifting problems, police officers started calling the day Black Friday. Store workers took the term to describe their most challenging working day of the year.

How It Became a Shopping Celebration

This transformation started when retailers recognized people were in a holiday mood-and were getting an extra day off-after Thanksgiving. Stores started advertising big sales. By the 1980s, marketers had been able to prepare an attractive redefinition from running in the red to running in the black. This marketing cleverness really helped turn this day into the national shopping tradition we know today.

The Modern-Day Black Friday

Black Friday has evolved worldwide today. Great sales are being offered in the countries like India, UK, UAE, and many parts in Southeast Asia, both online and offline. E-commerce flourishing now has turned Black Friday into a week-long, perhaps month-long festival of deals.
