The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, implemented by the central government to provide security to the rural people who are migrating, is achieving excellent results in Mulugu district. As the district Rural Development Department machinery is moving forward with a special action plan, not only is the number of working days for the labourers increasing, but it is also boosting the development of the villages. It is noteworthy that in the latest survey conducted by Libtech India, a leading Delhi-based research firm, Mulugu district has ranked first in the state in terms of creation of working days.
This scheme is being successfully implemented in 174 gram panchayats in ten mandals across the district. Currently, there are 52,380 active job cards, and 94,386 labourers are registered and getting employment under this scheme. Work has started in the first phase for the financial year 2025-26 with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.77 crore. Being an agricultural area, the number of labourers has increased dramatically as the Yasangi work is currently nearing its completion. This shows the importance of this scheme.
It is known that the daily wages of labourers have recently been increased from Rs. 300 to Rs. 307. To be eligible for the Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa scheme in the state , one has to work at least 20 days in a year. Currently, labourers are showing more interest in going to work across the state of Telangana. However, it is noteworthy that labourers are showing interest even though all these are not available in Mulugu.
In a study conducted by Libtech India, Mulugu district stood first in the state in terms of creation of working days and increase in the number of labourers in the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 with a growth of 38.5 percent. After that, Kamareddy district is in second place with 24.6 percent and Warangal district is in third place with 23.7 percent. Officials proudly say that these excellent results have been achieved due to giving high priority to dredging of crop canals and feeder channels, construction of farm paths, excavation of ponds and trenches related to agriculture. Due to these works, not only local labourers are getting continuous employment, but also agricultural lands are becoming more fertile.
This scheme is not only limited to employment generation but also contributes to the comprehensive development of rural areas. Giving priority to works like water conservation and soil conservation is benefiting the villages in the long run. It can be said that this success achieved by Mulugu district will undoubtedly be an inspiration to other districts as well.
