Top 5 Mistakes You Make While Drinking Water: Are you at Risk?

Drinking Water: Drinking water has been kept alive and becomes our true epitome for health and well-being. The way we drink water often directly contributes to our health. Most of us do not realize when we make mistakes that defeat the purpose of a proper hydrating process. Here are the top five mistakes made while drinking water and how to overcome them.

1. Drinking Too Much at Once

Gulping down large amounts of water in one go, especially when extremely thirsty, can shock the system. It may also dilute the body’s natural electrolytes, leading to fatigue or even water intoxication. Instead, sip water throughout the day to stay hydrated evenly and avoid overloading your kidneys.

2. Drinking Water While Standing

Ayurveda and other health experts assert that drinking water while standing can cause an imbalance of fluids in your body. When you stand, water flows rapidly down the esophagus, which may cause joint pain and indigestion later on. It’s best to sit down, relax, and sip your water slowly.

3. Not Drinking Enough Water

Very common mistake: under-hydration. Although a busy schedule will often suffice as an excuse, sometimes thirst alone just doesn’t cut it such that you can skip drinking water. Fatigue, poor digestion, headaches, kidney issues, and many more problems may arise from not having enough water. It is good to track your daily intake-a recommended 2 to 3 liters depending on the activity level of the person as well as the climate.

4. Drinking Water Just before Eating or after Eating

A little water while eating is good but sipping a lot of it just before eating or just after eating can dilute the digestive juices, causing the food to take a longer time to get digested. Ideally, water should be drunk around 30 minutes before and about 45 minutes after meals to facilitate optimum absorption of nutrients.

5. Drinking Ice-Cold Water Regularly

In addition to having a cool refreshing sensation, cold water even closes up blood vessels that hinders digestion. This slows down the general biological process of breaking food down. Lukewarm water or water at room temperature should be preferred for the whole during and after meals.

Hydration in terms of drinking the right amount is as essential as drinking at all. Avoiding these five common mistakes will maximize your water intake, leading to better digestion, more energy, healthier skin, and a healthier you.
