Top 7 Causes of Sudden Chest Pain You Should Never Ignore

Sudden Chest Pain:

It is common for people to feel sudden chest pain at some point in their lives. The first thought that often comes to mind is a heart attack. However, doctors say that not every chest pain is related to the heart. While chest pain should never be ignored, there are several other possible causes behind it.

Sudden Chest Pain:

Renowned cardiologist Dr. Ajay Bhargava explains that severe chest pain may or may not indicate a heart attack. Still, sudden chest pain must always be taken seriously. It can be a symptom of many health problems, not just heart issues. Let’s look at the common causes of chest pain.

1. Aortic Dissection:

When the main blood vessel of the heart (aorta) tears, it causes sharp pain in the chest or back. This is a medical emergency and needs immediate treatment as it may lead to heart failure.

2. Coronary Artery Disease:

This occurs when blood vessels become narrow, causing tightness or pressure in the chest. The pain usually decreases after rest, but continuous pain should not be ignored.

3. Heart Inflammation:

Conditions like myocarditis and pericarditis can lead to chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and an increased risk of heart attack.

4. Blood Clots in Lungs:

A clot in the lungs can cause sudden, severe chest pain and breathing difficulty. Diseases like pneumonia, pleurisy, or bronchitis can also lead to similar discomfort.

5. Rib or Spine Injury:

Physical injuries to the ribs or spine can also trigger chest pain.

6. Gas, Acidity, and GERD:

Around 30% of chest pain cases are caused by acidity or gas. This pain usually worsens after eating or lying down.

7. Anxiety and Stress:

Emotional stress and fear can also cause chest tightness or pain, often mistaken for a heart attack.

How Heart Attack Pain Feels:

Heart attack pain is heavy and squeezing, spreading to the arms, shoulders, jaw, or back. Symptoms include sweating, dizziness, and difficulty breathing.

Doctors strongly advise consulting a physician for any kind of chest pain. Timely medical help can save your life.
