March is an auspicious month in Telangana, rich with cultural, religious, and traditional festivals. As summer arrives, people across the state celebrate significant occasions with enthusiasm. From colorful Holi gatherings to the auspicious Telugu New Year (Ugadi) and the spiritual side of Eid-ul-Fitr, March offers a variety of holidays that bring families and communities together.
Holi, the festival of colors, is celebrated with great enthusiasm across Telangana. People gather with friends and family to play with colors, dance to music, and enjoy festive sweets like gujiya and malpua. The festival signifies the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil, with bonfires lit the night before as part of the Holika Dahan tradition. March 14 has been declared a public holiday, allowing people to fully immerse themselves in the celebrations.
Ugadi marks the beginning of the Telugu New Year and is one of the most important festivals in Telangana. Families decorate their homes with fresh mango leaves and colorful rangolis to welcome prosperity and good luck. A special dish called Ugadi Pachadi, made with six different flavors, symbolizes the various experiences of life-happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, and bitterness. People also listen to Panchanga Sravanam, which is an astrological forecast for the new year. Since Ugadi falls on a Sunday in 2025, it will be a day of spiritual reflection and family gatherings.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, is a significant occasion for the Muslim community. The day begins with special prayers at mosques, followed by feasts and charity donations. Families come together to prepare delicious dishes like biryani, sheer khurma, and kebabs, while exchanging greetings of “Eid Mubarak.” As March 31 is a government-recognized holiday, many businesses and institutions will remain closed to honor the celebrations.
Banks in Telangana will be closed on March 8 and March 22, as these are the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Government offices and schools may also observe certain optional holidays based on local traditions.
