The city of Visakhapatnam is hosting a bustling food festival. The festival displays a range of Andhra’s signature dishes. The food festival will be take place September 5 to 7. The festival will have more than 30 stalls at MGM Grounds. Cultural performances and chef competitions will also take place. Overall, this will be great time to feast on some amazing food.
The Vizag Food Festival starts September 5 – 7, 2023. Starting 6 PM every day until 10 PM. Entrance is free of charge for everyone. Expect 15,000–20,000 visitors each day. The District Tourism Department is organizing this event. Supported by various hotels and restaurant associations, along with the Event Managers Association of Visakhapatnam.
You can expect more than 30 stalls, all serving a wide variety of food. You can taste local delicacies from North Andhra. Other international food options will be available. More than a few organic food options will also be offered.
Each evening you will be entertained with cultural performances. Along with the cultural programs, a chef cooking competition will provide some excitement. There will be a double-decker bus service that will shuttle between the festival area. There are multiple Yatri Niwas properties in the area with online booking options available.

Natukodi Pulusu is a chicken curry. It’s slow cooked in a tangy gravy and it’s strong. It’s got garlic in it so the depth of flavor is excellent. Serve with steaming rice. It’s a favorite during festivals.
Royyala Vepudu is a prawn fry dish. The spicy roasted spices coat the caramelized prawns while the aroma of the curry leaves excite the senses. Enjoy the prawn fry with lime and rice. Royyala Vepudu can also be enjoyed as a tasty appetizer.
Gongura Pachadi is made from tangy sorrel leaves. The red chilies and garlic add extra spicy heat. The crunch comes from the mustard seeds. Enjoy with rice and ghee. Some crispy papads to dip.
Pesarattu is a lentil crepe. It has cumin, ginger, and chilies in the flavor profile. Cook it until it is golden brown. Stuff it with upma with vegetables. It’s essentially a protein breakfast.
Pulihora, tamarind + rice. Mustard seeds and peanuts give crunch, while chilies give heat. Also try lemon or mango. Best, it can be prasad from the temple as well.
Ragi Sangati is steamed balls made of millet. Served with spicy mutton curry, the nutty flavor of the ragi balls soothed by the rich gravy. This is essentially Andhra’s soul food.
Dubbed the “delicate dessert,” pootharekulu is a festival of thin rice sheets a sheet to hold jaggery. The addition of roasted nuts provides crunch-with ‘poothareku’ you want to eat more as it literally melts in your mouth.
Bobbatlu is a sweet flatbread. It is stuffed with jaggery and chana dal and flavored with ghee and cardamom. Traditionally, this dish is made only during festivals such as Sankranti.
