Why Men Wake Up Often to Pee: Signs and Solutions

Why Men Wake Up Often to Pee: Nocturia, or frequent sleep-time urination, plagues many men more effectively with age. It disturbs sleep patterns, depriving energy from both brain and body, and can even show other underlying health issues. However, knowing its causes and remedies will empower men in the fight for better health.

Why Men Wake Up Often to Pee?

Frequent Causes

Age is one of the factors that really drives nocturia in men. Above 50, the majority develop benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which causes pressure on the bladder and urges it to be empty frequently. Other factors associated with nocturia in men include bladder infections, diabetes, high consumption of fluids before bed, and certain types of medication, such as diuretics.

Warning Signs

Occasional nighttime awakenings for urination usually are fine; however, more than two or three times at night should make a man wonder if something wrong is brewing. Accompanying symptoms that should call a man’s attention include pain, burning-illiciting blood, and difficulty initiating and stopping urination. Continued nocturia may lead to severe exhaustion, mood changes, and more diminished attention during daytime hours.

Solutions and Preventative Measures

Dealing with nocturia begins with some lifestyle changes, such as restricting fluid intake several hours prior to bedtime, reducing caffeine and alcohol use, and following a healthy weight. In some studies, bladder control has improved through pelvic floor strengthening exercises and physical activity. Men who show signs and symptoms that seem to persist should consult a health care professional to get properly assessed and diagnosed. Some conditions, such as BPH or chronic infections, may be treated with medication or even an option to have the condition surgically corrected.

When to Consult a Doctor

Urine produced at night is too frequent, painful, or accompanied by other unusual symptoms that require visiting a doctor. At an early stage in finding out the cause, this can help prevent complications and improve the well-being of the person.
