Why Sugar Levels Rise Even Without Eating Sweets

Sugar Levels Rise:

Many people think that eating sweets is the only reason for high sugar levels in the body. However, doctors say this is a common myth. Even if you avoid sweets completely, your blood sugar can still rise due to several other factors.

Sugar Levels Rise:

One major reason is the type of food you eat. Foods made from refined flour, white bread, potatoes, and other high glycemic index items quickly increase blood sugar levels. Similarly, processed foods often contain hidden sugars and unhealthy fats that affect blood glucose.

Doctors also point out that lifestyle habits play a big role. Lack of physical activity, high stress levels, and irregular sleep can cause sugar levels to go up. Stress triggers the release of cortisol, a hormone that reduces insulin sensitivity and raises blood sugar. In the same way, poor sleep increases cortisol levels, again leading to higher glucose in the blood.

Certain medicines also influence sugar levels. For example, steroids given for diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, or autoimmune disorders can increase blood sugar. Medicines used for depression and contraceptive pills may also affect glucose levels. This means that even if you are not eating sweets, your sugar readings may still remain high due to these external factors.

Doctors explain that diabetes is not caused only by sugar intake. It is the overall combination of food choices, physical activity, stress management, medicines, and lifestyle habits. To keep sugar under control, experts suggest eating a balanced diet with whole grains, vegetables, and fiber-rich foods. Regular exercise, proper sleep, and timely use of medicines are also important.

Therefore, people should not believe that avoiding sweets alone will protect them from high blood sugar. A complete healthy lifestyle is the real key to diabetes control.
