Zara Vs H&M: Indian fashionistas will eternally argue about which of the two international fast fashion brands is easier on the pocket-Zara or H&M? They deserve their popularity for trendy collections; however, price-wise and value-wise, the variance is enormous. Calculating which in 2025 should be fun.
In terms of entry-level price range, H&M has dearly kept things more affordable. Basic T-shirts, shirts, dresses-come for ₹649-₹999 or so in H&M, whileZara has it from around ₹1,950 onwards. Premium for anything from Zara-drresses, jackets, structured clothing-would usually cost between ₹3,000-7,500, while H&M from ₹1,999-4,999 for their jackets and dresses.
What affordability means is not just pricing, but an affordable product that must also do some good. Depending on harmony and chic Zara is very street-smart, whereas, in many ways, H&M is just basic and trendy. They cannot sell cheap clothes, but Zara has some basic well-structured fashion to a very great pricing that it justifies; H&M go cheap for fashion.
The GST laws initiated in India also changed parameters on which these brands consider affordability. Anything priced above ₹2,500 will attract the GST of 18% for clothing and accessories as of September 2025, while their cheaper counterparts will bear the tax of only 5%. Most items at Zara will attract the penalty of this rule as they would mostly be priced above ₹2,500, while with so many options priced below ₹2,500, this new tax rule will be pretty comforting for H&M.
H&M would be bang for whatever you are getting at for the simple styles, kids’ wear, and college-accepted clothing. On the other hand, Zara is for you if you want to spend some extra bucks on runway-inspiredpieces that emphatically boast lasting quality.

In 2025, it would be H&M that is more affordable for the common person, especially in light of the GST surge. But for people who put trendy looks first and care about assessment later, Zara fits right with its patrons.
