Halloween K-Dramas: The month of October is that ‘special’ time when even ardent lovers of C-dramas feel a tad more inclined toward the mysterious, mystical, or supernatural. Spooky house, and all these K-dramas are about Halloween: a strong creepiness, melancholic, and a perfect hour of binge-watching!
A dark fantasy drama in which the mystical witch casts spells to ensure that the restaurant runs sole-scratching good eats at a heavy price-your deepest desire granted in exchange for the sacrifice of something truly precious-an initiation of gothic visuals, morals, and eerie feelings. The Witch Diner serves the purpose of Halloween binge-watching unto itself.
In her role as a real estate exorcist, Jang Na-ra performs the first ablutions and purification rites to welcome obstructing souls into the next world. Sell Your Haunted House portrays heartbreaking backstories with pure horror and spectral appearances.
This fantasy Korean drama is based on the classic Chinese Journey of the new-aged ghosts and other gods and creatures into the Seoul streets. The charming demon Lee Seung-gi and tragic commoner heroine Oh Yeon-seo-star in this (admittedly a little creepy but romantic) perfect kind of binge-watching for middle-of-the-night viewing.
It’s not a normal horror K-drama, but it’s Gothic with very haunting meanings of emotional storylines. The whole castle setting and creepy illustrations from kids’ storybooks coupled with Gothic motifs create a Halloween atmosphere more in the way of setting than a ‘traditional’ monsters-meet-the-girls storyline.
This a slow burn drama for a cold October evening. This underrated gem blends mystery, suspense, and romance to tell a plot of obsession, fate, and the shallow boundaries between love and madness with eerie mood.
