Feminichi Fathima has been released to the theatres by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films in Kerala, and tomorrow will be available to OTT audiences for their much-awaited revisit to this favourite. The directorial and writing effort of Fazil Muhammed, the film was a simple, humorous yet emotional treat for fans of Malayalam cinema. Co-produced by Sudheesh Skaria and Thamar KV along with AFD Cinemas, the family entertainer is now slated for a release on December 12 through Manorama Max.
Feminichi Fathima brings a lot of life in its narration, which involves an absolute rooted storyline with very relatable and meaningful perspective of slice-of-life drama. There will be humours and soft emotions further exploration of society-related subjects. The title also gives hint about the main character of the story-Fathima, whose daily life and relationship patterns along with adversities would form the emotional spine of the movie.
“A possibly very mundane ‘old bed’ (‘kidakka’) from which something exciting happens in Fathima’s life,” promises both humour and navel-gazing, and then – with much heart-Fathima is played out by Shamna Hamza, along with Kumar Sunil, Viji Viswanath, Praseetha, Raji R Unsi, Babitha Basheer, and Fazil Muhammed.
The film traversed extensively through the OTT time-string of national and international film festival circuits and duly yielded almost all prestigious awards in its kitty before it got set for OTT. Thus, “Feminichi Fathima” bagged the IFFK FIPRESCI Award for Best International Film, the NETPAC Award for Best Malayali Film, Audience Poll Award, and numerous jury mentions. Among others, state honours included KR Mohanan Award, JC Daniel Foundation, Prem Nazir Foundation, and Satyajit Ray Film Society.
This added to its official selection for the Bishkek Film Festival, BIFF Asian Competition, Indo-German Film Festival, and Melbourne Film Festival, thereby further establishing it as a reigning Malayalam film this year.
The cinematographer is Prince Francis, while the editor of the movie is also director Fazil Muhammed. The score for the background was formed by Shiyad Kabeer while Jojil D Parakkal handles DI and colour grading. A huge number of great artists have contributed to sound, VFX, subtitles, and design to give the polished cinematic experience.
