Ghaati OTT Release: haati starring Anushka Shetty, which recently hit the screens at the beginning of this month, is now moving towards its much-awaited digital release on the 26th of September. The official announcement from Prime Video came on Wednesday. Which means a chance for everyone who did not make it to the theatres to see the period drama at home.
Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Ghaati unfolds against the rugged backdrop of the Eastern Ghats along the Andhra–Odisha border. The drama revolves around Sheelavathi (Anushka Shetty), a woman rising from years of oppression who seeks avengement and justice for her people. Along with her beloved Desi Raju (Vikram Prabhu), she dreams of liberating their community from the cruel grip of the Naidu brothers (Chaitanya Rao and Ravindra Vijay). The brothers exploit the marginalized villagers, forcing them into an illicit trade and dangerous smuggling network. All set to give Sheelavathi the best fight for freedom.
Though its premise was strong and Anushka acted well, the film failed to take off in the theatres. Viewer’s complaints included a lack of gripping pace, bad screenplay, and predictable storytelling. For an actress that earned accolades for memorable roles in Arundhati and Baahubali. It was surprising to many that Ghaati would fail and earned her critics tagging it as her biggest flop ever.
Typically, such films come alive on the streaming platforms, where there is usually more extended and more forgiving audience space. Ghaati will make its way to Prime Video. Perhaps the layered narrative, cultural backdrop, and Anushka’s performance will find greater acceptance among audiences who view the drama through digital screens.

Indeed, Ghaati may have yielded an underwhelming performance in theatres. But its streaming release will determine whether it is ultimately the biggest flop in Anushka Shetty’s career. Or just a misunderstood drama that rescues itself in streaming. The day will reveal if Ghaati sinks any further or gets that much-needed revival among home audiences on the 26th of September.
