Stranger Things 5: With Stranger Things gearing up for its next season, Netflix has given us new character posters for Eleven, Max Mayfield, and Erica Sinclair. The new images seem to be using a fresh, modern, and minimalist style, not however to much appeal for fans of the series.
The previous Stranger Things character posters were praised for their cinematic backdrops — that told their own story of that particular season somewhat within the tone of light and darkness. Whether it held an eerie Upside Down glow or the dark hallways of the Hawkins Lab, it was the background that carried a tale. With these new ones, it seems to be only a stark number representing the season.
“I’ll be honest; I’m not that crazy with these new character posters,” chirped one disillusioned fan online. “In the past, the settings aided in giving part of the story — now it’s just a number.”
Max’s appearance seems to draw directly from her Season 4 look, suggesting an emotional continuity to her arc. Erica Sinclair, on the other hand, is seen with some carelessly curious eyes, raising the idea that perhaps her role will grow even greater in the forthcoming tale. Meanwhile, the piercing gaze of Eleven left a lot of fans mesmerized; as one viewer jokingly said, “The way El is looking I think I’m a monster and she’s about to beat the hell out of me.”
The posters have been successful in sparking some excitement, despite mixed opinions, back into the final chapters of Stranger Things. Whether this choice for a minimalist design is a sly creative choice or merely a new style is up for debate, but one thing is for sure: Hawkins and its heroes are preparing for one last electrifying showdown.
