The Girlfriend OTT Release: The cast and crew, led by director Rahul Ravindran and stars Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty, insisted before the film’s release that it would be a debate starter. It did spark, too. The Girlfriend’s protagonist, Bhooma Devi, was somewhat relatable to the majority of the female audience, who experienced moments of deja vu.

Although the guys continued to disagree, most reviewers found Rahul’s delicate handling of the matter to be appealing. The movie, which debuted in theaters on November 7, was acquired by Netflix and released in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi at midnight on December 5.

For Rashmika, whose acting abilities have frequently been questioned, particularly in her high-profile Hindi movies, The Girlfriend served as confirmation that she is more than just the required glam factor. Rashmika stated that she had something to prove up until The Girlfriend in a recent interview.

She said, “I came here to be an actor, but when they used to say that ‘she is part of big spectacle films and does not have much to contribute’, it used to bother me. But somehow playing Bhooma Devi in The Girlfriend gave me some peace in my heart and mind that I can be purely an actor, and not just a heroine. That calmed my heart. I now want to do quality work over quantity.”

Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini also participated in The Girlfriend, which centers on Rashmika’s heroine who, after years of being suppressed in domineering relationships, first by her father and later by her boyfriend, finally escapes.
