Rekhachithram OTT Review: Engaging Storyline, Slow-Paced narrative

The most recent Malayalam murder mystery thriller, Rekhachithram, debuted on the Sony LIV OTT platform in a number of languages. The film, which was released in theaters around Kerala during the Pongal holiday. The movie made over Rs 50 crores at the box office, starred Mollywood actors Asif Ali, Anaswara Rajan, Manoj K Jayan, and the renowned Mammootty in an AI-generated cameo.

This film is directed by  Jofin T Chacko and produced by Venu Kunnappilly. In this film, music director  Mujeeb Majeed has played a major role in engaging the audience.

Rekhachithram Plot:

After being suspended for his gambling activities, Vivek (Asif Ali), a Kerala police officer, is brought back to look into a previous case involving the murder of a young woman. The murder comes to light after an elderly man named Rajendran (Siddique) confesses on Facebook Live to killing a young woman named Rekha (Anaswara Rajan) in 1985 while filming Mammootty’s famous Kathodu Kathoram with the assistance of Vincent (Manoj K. Jayan) and two other people. Will Vivek be able to solve the case that occurred over 40 years ago?

Minus Points:

The Main Minus point in the film is the movie moves a little slowly, like the majority of Malayalam thrillers. The viewers who appreciate fast-paced thrillers would not love it. The film’s slow-moving plot somewhat undermines its attempts to evoke nostalgia through original storytelling.

Overall Review:
Rekhachithram is a well-written story that has a compelling plot that spans the 1980s and is set against the backdrop of a vintage film production. Solving a murder case set on the set of a former cult film is an impressive concept in and of itself. The movie is also jam-packed with strong performances, unexpected turns, and technical mastery. But for some viewers, the slow-moving plot may prevent them from experiencing the full sensation the movie aims to provide.
