After five years, the high-octane espionage thriller Special Ops is back with Season 2. Created by Neeraj Pandey, the series originally premiered in 2020 and gained massive popularity for its slick storytelling and grounded spy action. It was followed by Special Ops 1.5 in 2021, a spin-off that focused on Himmat Singh’s backstory. Now, with Special Ops 2, the full team returns for a new mission that shifts the battle from bullets to bytes
Kay Kay Menon returns as the ever-calculating Himmat Singh, the backbone of Indian intelligence operations. Calm, methodical, and unrelenting, he leads the unit with razor-sharp instincts. Vinay Pathak, as Abbas Sheikh, brings street-smart grit and grounded humour, acting as the perfect foil to Himmat’s intensity. Their dynamic equal parts respect and restraint remains central to the heart of the series.
Actress Saiyami Kher, who returns after a five-year break from the original season, called the experience both nostalgic and creatively fulfilling. Reuniting with director Neeraj Pandey and actors, Saiyami said stepping onto the same sets after so long brought back “a flood of memories.”
She also revealed how her character now dives deeper into action. “It felt empowering,” she shared. “I love doing action. It reflects the strength women carry in real life too.”
In Season 1, Special Ops followed RAW agent Himmat Singh, played by Kay Kay Menon, as he chased down a mastermind terrorist involved in multiple attacks over the years. The plot unfolded through Singh’s covert team, spread across countries, each contributing to tracking down the main threat, Ikhlaq Khan.
The stakes are higher this time. Special Ops 2 enters the age of cyber warfare. Technology is now the main weapon. According to the trailer, Himmat Singh and his team face a faceless enemy -a cyber-terrorist targeting Indian intelligence systems.
Returning with Kay Kay Menon are Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Meher Vij, Muzammil Ibrahim, and Saiyami Kher. This season also introduces Tahir Raj Bhasin as the chief antagonist and Prakash Raj in a pivotal role.
The show promises intense digital combat, AI-driven threats, and a pace that never lets up. “Everyone is a target,” says the tagline and the trailer delivers exactly that energy.
