Thangalaan starring Chiyaan Vikram is making headlines once again. The action adventure film was premiered in theaters on Independence Day and is currently streaming on Netflix in all South Indian languages on December 16, 2024. However, there was no update about Hindi version.
Now there is good news for Chiyaan Vikram’s North Indian fans who are eagerly waiting for it in Hindi version. Netflix has now added the Hindi version, which will be available alongside the other languages.
Thangalaan was directed by Tamil citical acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith featuring a talented cast that includes Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, and Pasupathy in major roles. K E Gnanavelraja and Neha Gnanavelraja produced the film, which also boasts an outstanding soundtrack by GV Prakash Kumar.
The action adventure film is set the British Raj era i.e in 1850, in the village of Veppur, North Arcot, and revolves around a fierce tribal leader sets out to stop an apparent sorceress, after earning her wrath when assisting a British general in tracing gold in their village.
Thangalaan resides with his wife, Gengamma, and their children. As the village chief and a landowner, he is highly respected, unlike most of his fellow villagers who are bonded labourers on the zamindar’s land. Thangalaan kills zamindar and the other officers, declaring that the land and its resources are hereby their own, not to be exploited by foreigners. With newfound determination, Thangalaan single-handedly ventures deep into the mine and finally discovers an abundance of native gold, finally bringing joy to his community.
Chiyaan Vikram starrer was released with high expectations worldwide on 15 August 2024 in standard, 3D and EPIQ formats but failed to impress audience. The film received mixed reviews from critics who praised the lead cast’s performances (especially Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Daniel Caltagirone), storyline, action and GV Prakash Kumar’s background score but criticized the historical inaccuracies, visual effects and writing. The film grossed Rs 72–100 crore against a budget of Rs 100–150 crore. Film is now streaming on Netflix in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
