AP Govt Brings QR Code Smart Ration Cards – Apply on WhatsApp

Apply Ration card through whatsapp:

In a new move to make services easier for the people, the Andhra Pradesh government has started a simple way to apply for a ration card. People who are eligible but don’t have a ration card can now apply through WhatsApp. This step is a part of the “Mana Mitra” governance program and aims to help poor and needy families across the state.

Apply Ration card through whatsapp:

To apply, all you have to do is send a “Hi” message to the number 9552300009 on WhatsApp. After that, you will get a menu with instructions. Follow the steps to submit your details and documents. Once the process is complete, your new smart ration card will be sent to your home. The government plans to issue these smart cards with QR codes from June this year.

How to Apply?

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has also instructed officials to allow people to apply offline. From May 7 to June 7, citizens can also visit their village or ward secretariats to apply for a new ration card. If you already have a card, you can also make changes like adding or removing names, correcting addresses, or surrendering old cards.

The government is also working to avoid any mistakes in rice distribution. The Civil Supplies Department has been asked to ensure that there is no corruption, mismanagement, or re-cycling of ration rice. The CM also stressed that 79,173 names registered in rice cards but not present in the main data (GSWS) should be checked and corrected.

At present, Andhra Pradesh has 1.46 crore rice cards covering over 4.24 crore people. Out of them, nearly 3.94 crore people have already completed their KYC (Know Your Customer) process. Around 23 lakh people still need to finish this process. Children under 5 years and people above 80 years are exempted from this.

The state government has also started seven types of services related to ration cards like adding names, removing names, updating details, address change, and more. This has received a good response from the public.

In addition to this, the government has also bought a huge amount of rice from farmers. In the Kharif season, 35.94 lakh metric tonnes and in the Rabi season, 14.28 lakh metric tonnes of grain were collected. Farmers were paid ₹8,278 crore in Kharif and ₹3,076 crore in Rabi for their produce.

This new digital approach using WhatsApp and village secretariats is expected to save time and reduce long queues. It also ensures that government services reach even remote villages without any trouble.
