fashion show in J&K, Locals are in shock

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that he “totally understood” the people’s shock and rage after a fashion show that took place in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of Ramadan was flagged for obscenity. The occasion, which took place in the Gulmarg ski resort. This has drawn harsh criticism from both religious and political quarters.

Photos shared online showed “semi-nude” men and women walking the ramp in skimpy clothes. With this, critics argue that this demolished the state’s cultural values.

Mr. Abdullah promised action and requested a report on this matter within a day. “It’s very reasonable to be shocked and angry. The Chief Minister shared a similar post by senior cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, saying, “The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities and that too during this holy month.”

The chairman of the separatist Hurriyat Conference and head priest of Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, Umar Farooq, had referred to it as “outrageous” and declared that using obscenity to promote tourism would not be accepted.

“Amazing! An obscene fashion show is held in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramadan; images and videos from the event have gone viral, shocking and upsetting many. In a valley renowned for its Sufi, saintly culture and the profoundly religious mindset of its inhabitants, how could it be accepted? “Those responsible should be held accountable right away,” Umar Farooq stated.

According to Mr. Abdullah, his office communicates with the local government. Social activist Raja Muzaffar Bhat claimed that the incident was an effort to undermine Kashmir’s moral and ethical principles.

“Who permitted this naked fashion exhibition to take place at Gulmarg in Holy Ramzan? Walking on snow, semi-naked men and women. Will the CEO of the GDA’s Tourism Department provide any clarification? In an online post, he said, “Why are you hell bound to destroy our moral, ethical, cultural, and religious values?”
