How India Plans to Use BrahMos Next?: 5 Major Plans

BrahMos: India’s supersonic cruise missile system, BrahMos, has grabbed the spotlight again after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Indian armed forces used BrahMos missiles during Operation Sindoor.

At a public event, Mr. Sharif told the media, ‘On the night of May 9–10, we decided to respond in a measured fashion to Indian aggression. Our armed forces were prepared to act at 4:30 in the morning after Fajr prayers to teach a lesson. But before that hour even arrived, India launched another missile attack using BrahMos and struck multiple provinces in Pakistan, including the airport in Rawalpindi.’

BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile:

The BrahMos, a supersonic cruise missile that travels at three times the speed of sound, can strike targets up to 400 kilometers away. India and Russia jointly developed their air-launched variant, but India manufactures it exclusively. The Indian Air Force placed this variant at the forefront of its aerial offensive during Operation Sindoor, a targeted military strike on terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. IAF pilots fired the missiles from Su-30MKI fighters stationed with a squadron based in Tamil Nadu.

Operation Sindoor:

After the Indian military carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7, the Pakistani Army launched drones and missiles into western regions of India. However, Indian defense forces successfully intercepted the incoming threats. In response, Indian forces struck specific military targets deep within Pakistani territory.

Throughout the escalation, Indian Navy vessels armed with BrahMos missiles remained ready for action. The Indian Army kept its BrahMos launch units on high alert. Meanwhile, Pakistan failed to intercept the incoming BrahMos missiles, despite deploying its multi-layered Chinese air defense systems, raising serious questions about its ability to counter India’s expanding missile arsenal.

5 Game-Changing Strategies With BrahMos:

1. India is building a powerful extended-range missile that can strike targets up to 800 kilometers away.

2. The Navy is gearing up to test the submarine-launched BrahMos again, aiming to deploy it on future P75I submarines.

3. DRDO is developing a compact, lighter BrahMos variant tailor-made for Rafale jets and other advanced fighters.

4. India is actively developing a hypersonic version of this missile, aiming to push the limits of speed and survivability on the modern battlefield.

5. India has already delivered BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines, marking a major step in defense exports. Meanwhile, several Southeast Asian countries, like Vietnam, and even nations in the Middle East, are lining up with growing interest in acquiring the powerful missile system.
