India-Pakistan: The two countries recently agreed to a ceasefire to reduce the tensions that have arisen between India and Pakistan. However, today (Monday) talks were to be held at the level of the Director General of Military Operations of the two countries. These talks, which were to be held at 12 noon, have been postponed to the evening. The talks between the two countries will be held through a hotline. In this context, what exactly is a hotline? Who uses this hotline? How do we talk through it? Let us see in this story.
After the Pahalgam terror attack, India carried out a series of lightning strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the attack, under the name of Operation Sindoor. As a result, the Pakistani army violated the ceasefire along the border and launched attacks on Indian border states with drones, missiles, and fighter jets.
However, the three services of India effectively countered the attacks by Pakistan. As part of this, heavy losses were incurred on the Pakistani side. Some soldiers were also martyred on the Indian side. In this context, Donald Trump himself announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between India and Pakistan with the mediation of the US. Later, officials from both countries also confirmed this. However, in violation of this agreement, firing from the Pakistani side was violated, and India retaliated. In this context, the India-Pakistan DGMO talks were scheduled to be held at 12 noon on Monday, but they were postponed to the evening. These talks will be held through a hotline.
This hotline is a tool used by officials of the two countries to conduct diplomatic negotiations. This hotline is a special telephone or communication link set up for direct communication in emergency situations. Unlike a regular call, it is set up so that officials can talk directly without any interruptions. Usually, officials from both countries talk through this hotline to resolve the problem.
The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army and the DGMO of the Pakistani Army will talk using this hotline to reduce tensions between India and Pakistan. This hotline will be used to share information directly and clearly without third-party interference.
The hotline operates on an encrypted line. This means that no outsider can tap into the conversations on the hotline. This is crucial for transmitting sensitive and confidential information related to the military.
The hotline fiber optic network is used to transfer information from one end to the other at the fastest speed. This increases the security and clarity of the hotline.
Backup communication
Satellite or high frequency radio systems are used as a backup in case the primary hot line is down.
Hotline calls are preceded by an initiation protocol. Certain codes and signals are used before this communication is initiated between military officials from two countries.
Not a network like a walkie-talkie
This is not a normal telephone call. It is part of a special military network. No ordinary person can access it.
