Jagan Mohan Reddy Convoy Incident:
In a tragic and controversial turn of events, a supporter of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) died during a rally led by party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Guntur district.
A video that went viral on social media appears to show 65-year-old Cheeli Singaiah being run over by the vehicle carrying Jagan himself. The footage shows Jagan waving to supporters from his car door as people rushed to greet him. During this commotion, the man is seen falling under the front wheel of the vehicle.
Police Confirmation and Initial Reports
Guntur SP S Satish Kumar confirmed that Singaiah died after being hit by a vehicle from the convoy. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The incident occurred on June 18 near Etukuru village on a national highway as Jagan was heading to Sattenapalli in Palnadu district.
Soon after the video surfaced, opposition parties and some ministers claimed that Jagan’s vehicle caused the accident. Andhra Pradesh Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar criticized the rally as a “publicity stunt” that endangered lives.
However, YSRCP leaders strongly denied these claims. Former Minister Ambati Rambabu said the video is fake and part of a media trial led by the opposition TDP to damage Jagan’s reputation. Rambabu asserted that it wasn’t Jagan’s car but another vehicle in the convoy that hit the supporter.
Rambabu further claimed that Jagan would never ignore such an incident and always ensures proper medical attention to anyone injured. He accused opposition media of twisting the narrative to dilute the positive impact of Jagan’s public tour.
He also alleged that the ruling coalition was using police power to intimidate YSRCP members and file false cases. Rambabu himself has been booked for violating police restrictions during the rally.
Jagan was on his way to console the family of Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao, a former sarpanch who died by suicide. The incident drew large crowds, far exceeding police permissions, which allowed only three vehicles and about 100 attendees.
On the same day, another supporter, 30-year-old P. Jayvardhan Reddy, collapsed near the Sattenapalli clock tower amid the crowd. He was also declared dead at the hospital.
