Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil Resigns as Youth Congress Chief

Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil: Rahul Mamkoottathil, MLA and president of the Youth Congress Kerala State, resigned from his position on Thursday, August 21, 2025, after being accused of acting inappropriately against women. As the Congress party steps up its battle against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) administration in Kerala, Mr. Mamkoottathil claimed he was resigning “not because of any wrongdoing, but to protect the Congress party.”

V.D. Satheesan, the leader of the Kerala opposition, promises tough punishment for a “Congress person” who is alleged to have mistreated an aspiring actor. At a time when the fight against the LDF government’s anti-people policies has peaked, I am adamant that no Congress employee should have to shoulder the burden of defending me against these accusations. As a result, I am stepping down as president of the Youth Congress, and I am ready to face any legal action brought against me,” he said.

Additionally, Mr. Mamkoottathil denied rumors that he had been asked to resign by the party leadership. He claimed that neither the High Command nor V. D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition in Kerala, had been in touch with him over the matter.

In response to another question, he stated that the actor who made the accusations of wrongdoing used to be a close friend. She hasn’t named me in any particular complaint that she has filed. I don’t think she’s criticizing me,” he continued.

Allegations Raised by Blogger:

He also denied the claims made by a blogger, asserting that the alleged audio recordings and conversations that were leaked to the public were fake. Reports indicate that senior Congress leaders had become worried about keeping him in a crucial leadership position ahead of the next Assembly elections, despite his claim that the choice was voluntary, out of concern that it would harm the party’s reputation. According to sources, Mr. Satheesan and Sunny Joseph, the president of the KPCC, have already had casual conversations on the issue. Demanding Mr. Mamkoottathil’s resignation, DYFI activists marched to his home earlier in the day.
