Konda Surekha’s Remarks on Ministers Taking Money for File Clearance

Konda Surekha’s Remarks:

Telangana Minister Konda Surekha has once again made controversial comments. She said that it is “normal” for ministers to take money to clear company files. Speaking at a public event in Warangal, she shared her personal experience while addressing the problem of poor infrastructure at a government girls’ college.

Konda Surekha’s Remarks:

Surekha attended the foundation ceremony of a new building at Krishna Colony Government Junior College for Girls. The building is being constructed with ₹5 crore CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds from Aurobindo Pharma Foundation. She explained that the old building was in bad condition, especially during the rainy season, and students were facing many difficulties.

She said the district collector brought the issue to her attention. As the Forest Minister, she receives several files from companies for clearance. She admitted, “Usually, ministers take money to clear such files.” But she clarified that she didn’t want any money.

Surekha told the companies, “We don’t want even a single paisa. Do some service for society. Help our school, and your name will be remembered.” She added that Aurobindo Pharma was unsure at first and said they needed to speak to their seniors. Eventually, they agreed to fund the project with ₹4.5 crore.

She was happy with their decision. The new building will have 15 classrooms across two floors, a big hall like an auditorium, 60 modern toilets, and new furniture for the students.

Surekha’s comments have created a buzz in political circles, especially in the Congress party. Her open talk about money being taken for file clearances has sparked debate and concern.

Her honesty in revealing the common practice and her choice to ask for help for a public cause instead of personal benefit received mixed reactions. While some praised her openness, others questioned the larger issue of corruption she highlighted
