Major reshuffle of IAS officers in Telangana: Here’s why

The Telangana government recently cleared a major revamp of IAS officers in Telangana, which is one of the big administrative changes the state has ever seen. It comes on the heels of appointing a new Chief Secretary. A few high-ranking officers like Smita Sabharwal, Jayesh Ranjan, M Dana Kishore and Shashank Goel have been shifted and assigned new stations. The change is designed to maximize administrative efficacy and reconstitute leadership positions to better reflect present-day priorities.

Smita Sabharwal
Proactive leadership woman Smita Sabharwal has been transferred and posted as Member Secretary, Telangana Finance Commission. As part of this reshuffle, she has been entrusted with the duties she was earlier holding as Special Chief Secretary to the government, Director of YAT&C Department and Director of Archaeological Department.

Jayesh Ranjan
Jayesh Ranjan, previously holding the post of Special Chief Secretary, ITE&C and Sports. He has been shifted as Special Chief Secretary to the Government and CEO, Industry & Investment Cell in the CMO, as well as SPEED. He will also retain extra responsibilities in main departments.


M Dana Kishore

Principal Secretary (MAUD) M Dana Kishore has now been made Principal Secretary (LET&F) in lieu of Sanjay Kumar. Dana Kishore will also retain a number of other responsibilities, such as Labour and Insurance Medical Services.

Shashank Goyal

Dr Shashank Goyal, Director General, MCR HRD Institute, has been made Vice Chairman, Centre for Good Governance. And entrusted with additional responsibilities of EPTRI, Ahmed Nadeem has been withdrawn.

Strategic Reason Behind Reorganization

The restructurings are in line with the government’s vision to streamline the administrative system. And enhance concentration on priority projects and city development. Through the redeployment of key functions, the government seeks to respond to priority challenges. And improve efficiency in core areas of municipal administration, industries and finance.

This reshuffling of Telangana’s IAS officers as part of strategic renewal is perceived to be an endeavor toward ensuring smooth governance and finding a solution for changing priorities at the state level. With able officers assuming their roles, the state can gear up to enhancing its administrative skills and delivering appropriate solutions to the public.
