Muhammad Yunus Responds to India-Bangladesh Trade Tensions

India-Bangladesh Trade Tensions: The Indian government has taken strict measures to restrain the Bangladesh government. New Delhi has already imposed restrictions on imports from that country. In this context, the head of the interim government of the country, Muhammad Yunus, has recently responded to the trade issues with India. He revealed that he wants to resolve the issues with India through talks. Speaking to the media on this occasion, he said that he has not yet received official information from the Indian government on the trade restrictions.

India Bangladesh Trade Tensions

After the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh , Muhammad Yunus, who formed an interim government and became the head, is adopting an anti-India policy. He is always doing something to relieve the tension on India. He is increasing the conflict with India by getting closer to Pakistan and China. Especially last month, Bangladesh imposed heavy restrictions on goods coming from India. In response, New Delhi has also imposed restrictions on imports from that country.

In particular, the central government has announced that ready-made garments from Bangladesh will be allowed to enter India only through the Kolkata and Navseva ports. Ready-made garments, plastics, wooden furniture, carbonated drinks, processed food items, etc. have been banned from entering India by road through the northeastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Fulbari, and customs stations. India also canceled the transshipment understanding about 5 weeks ago. With this, Bangladesh lost the opportunity to export various products to other countries through India.

Bangladesh’s trade advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin makes shocking comments

Bangladesh has recently responded to these trade restrictions imposed by India. In particular, Bangladesh’s trade advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin made shocking comments while speaking to the media. He said that they have not yet received any official information from the Indian government on the trade restrictions. Bashiruddin said that they will decide what to do only after they receive information about the steps taken by India. He said that if there are any problems, both sides are ready to discuss and resolve them. Let’s find out whether India will resolve the problems that it has agreed to discuss, or whether it will show the same signs to Bangladesh, which often criticizes us.

He said that it has been learned from the news that India has taken several decisions especially regarding Akhaura and Daki ports as well as some border areas. Also said that this is a good thing for both countries. He explained that they believe that India is at the top in the textile industry. However, they said that the respective products are also exported from their country. This depends on their capacity. However, naturally, due to competition in trade and transportation, restrictions are sometimes imposed. He clarified that this is only a part of the trade process. But he reiterated once again that these problems will be resolved through discussions.
