New Chief Secretary For Telangana: In an important administrative change, K Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary (Finance), has been made the new Chief Secretary of Telangana. This has come after A Santhi Kumari retired after reaching the age of superannuation on April 30, 2025. The government issued the formal order, GOMs 513, on Sunday, effecting this change.
K Ramakrishna Rao, an IAS officer from the 1991 batch, had ample experience to draw upon when taking up his new assignment recently. Finance Department’s Special Chief Secretary, he used his energies towards keeping the state finances in order. His term has been notable with the induction of next-generation financial systems that introduced transparency and checks on fund dispensation. Rao’s influence was most felt in times of hardship, like the COVID-19 pandemic, when he guided the country out of financial crisis successfully.
Ramakrishna Rao has played a key role in determining the financial situation of Telangana since its inception. He has tabled all 10 budgets so far, mobilizing funds for flagship schemes and maintaining fiscal discipline. He has also been Director General at the Centre for Good Governance, where he drove reforms through the use of information technology. As a part of his work in the State Reorganization Department, he also oversaw the smooth bifurcation of assets of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The new Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao will use his significant administrative and financial experience to its fullest potential. His new posting is timely for Telangana which has been experiencing developmental agendas and financial problems. Rao will also be given full additional charge of the Finance Department until fresh appointments are made.
