Pakistan PM Seeks Talks, Demands Kashmir on Agenda

Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif has made a key statement on peace talks with India. Sharif said that they are ready for talks, but he made it a condition that the Kashmir issue should be part of the talks. He spoke to soldiers who were involved in recent military clashes at Kamra Air Base. Meanwhile, the Indian government has made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Shahbaz’s visits, in response to Modi’s visit after Operation Sindoor, have drawn criticism.

Pakistan PM Demands Kashmir on Agenda?

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited India for peace talks. ‘We are ready for peace,’ he declared. Shehbaz made these comments during a visit to the Kamra Air Base in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Sharif spoke to officers and soldiers who were involved in the recent military clashes with India. Shehbaz Sharif said, ‘We are ready for peace talks with India, but the Kashmir issue must be among the necessary conditions for peace,’ he clarified. However, the Indian government has already given clarity on Kashmir. It reiterated that the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are indivisible and integral parts of India.

Those who visited the Qamra Airbase included Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Army Chief General Asim Munir, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu.

Operation Sindoor, Ceasefire & the Ind-Pak Conflict

In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched ‘ Operation Sindoor ‘ in the early hours of May 7. The Indian armed forces targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing more than 100 terrorists. The terror camps were destroyed in these lightning strikes. As a result, Pakistan tried to retaliate against Indian military installations on May 8, 9 and 10. However, the Indian army defeated them and shot down missiles and drones.

India then retaliated strongly. Indian troops carried out attacks on Pakistani military bases like Rafiki, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Saqqar, and Chunian. The four-day military confrontation between the two countries ended with a ceasefire agreement on May 10. Attacks on the border stopped after India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, before visiting Kamran Air Base, Shehbaz Sharif also visited Pasrur Cantonment Base in Sialkot on Wednesday and interacted with the soldiers there. Kamran was the second defense base he visited after the clash. However, Shehbaz copied Indian Prime Minister Modi. It was only after Modi visited Adampur Air Base in Punjab, which played a key role in Operation Sindoor, that the Pakistani Prime Minister went to his air bases and posed for photos.
