Fishermen Attack: In recent times, there were series of mid sea attacks by the unknown persons from Sri lanka. This raised a serious issue in the coast area, all the fishermen from Vedaranyam and Kilvelur in Nagapattinam have sat on a srike condemning the attacks on the fishermen in the mid sea.
What Happened?
A series of violent incidents occurred where armed men attacked fishermen at sea. The victims were from Seruthur, Akkaraipettai, and Vellapallam. The attackers looted fishing equipment, including engines and nets worth lakhs. Doctors are now treating all the fishermen at the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital.
Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Reaction:
In the meantime Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister responded to it and urge central government to take necessary action to it. He said that this is a matter of deep concern and urged central government to address this issue as soon as possible.
He wrote, “The recent incidents involving 24 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu, reported across five separate occurrences in the Bay of Bengal, are a matter of deep concern. It is distressing to learn that these fishermen from Nagapattinam district have faced hardships and sustained injuries, reportedly due to confrontations at sea, which have also impacted their livelihoods.”

Additionally he also said about the relationship between Sri lanka and India. He wrote, “In the light of longstanding cordial and warm relationship shared by India and Sri Lanka, I respectfully urge the Ministry of External Affairs to take note of these repeated incidents to address these recurring situations in an amicable manner.”
In the conclusion, he wrote, “It is imperative that the governments of India and Sri Lanka engage in constructive and sustained dialogue to address these concerns in a spirit of cooperation. I also appeal for continued efforts to uphold the safety and dignity of fishermen on both sides and to reinforce respect for maritime boundaries through collaborative understanding and goodwill.”
