PM Modi Honoured with Cyprus’s Highest Civilian Award

Cyprus’s Highest Civilian Award: On Monday, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III. The highest civilian award in the country, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.


Named after Makarios III, the first president of the Republic of Cyprus, this prestigious award recognizes heads of state and distinguished individuals for their exceptional service to the nation. As part of the official ceremony, President Christodoulides personally conferred the medal on PM Modi, celebrating the growing ties between the two nations. In response, PM Modi graciously thanked the President, the government, and the people of Cyprus for the recognition. Moreover, he emphasized that the award reflected the strength of the India-Cyprus partnership and the shared commitment to global peace and progress.

While receiving Cyprus’s highest civilian honour, PM Narendra Modi expressed deep appreciation, saying, “Mr. President, I sincerely thank you, the Government of Cyprus, and the people of Cyprus for bestowing upon me the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III.”

He added, “This honour does not belong to me alone, it belongs to 140 crore Indians. It reflects their capabilities, aspirations, and unwavering spirit. Moreover, it symbolizes our nation’s enduring cultural bonds and our belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world is one family.” Furthermore, PM Modi dedicated the award to the strong and friendly ties between India and Cyprus. He emphasized the shared values and mutual understanding that have brought the two nations closer over time. “On behalf of all Indians,” he concluded, “I accept this honour with the utmost humility and gratitude.”

Moreover, PM Modi emphasized, “This honour symbolises our unwavering commitment to peace, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prosperity of our people.” He acknowledged the depth of the recognition and added, “I understand the significance of this honour and accept it as a responsibility to further strengthen the relationship between India and Cyprus.”

Looking ahead, he confidently stated that the ties between the two nations would continue to grow. “I am certain,” he affirmed, “that the relationship between India and Cyprus will reach new heights in the coming years.”

PM Modi’s Visit to Cyprus:
As the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the island nation in more than 20 years. PM Modi arrived in Cyprus on Sunday afternoon (local time). Upon his arrival at Larnaca International Airport, the Cypriot President warmly welcomed him, marking the beginning of a significant diplomatic engagement.
