Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s achievement of a record 1 billion tons of coal production in the current fiscal year was a proud moment for the nation. Demonstrating its dedication to energy security and independence.
Coal is the primary energy source for the fifth largest economy in the world. It is mostly utilized to generate power and fuel various industries. 997.83 million tons of coal were produced in India between April 2023 and March 2024.
Modi called the 1 billion tons of coal produced in the current fiscal year “A Proud Moment for India!” in a social media post on X.

Additionally, he said, “Crossing the monumental milestone of 1 Billion tonnes of coal production is a remarkable achievement, highlighting our commitment to energy security, economic growth, and self-reliance. This feat also reflects the dedication and hardwork of all those associated with the sector.”
According to Modi, the accomplishment also shows how committed and diligent everyone working in the field is. The Prime Minister was responding to a social media post by G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, announcing this accomplishment.
The minister claimed that India has ensured sustainable and ethical mining in addition to increasing production through the use of advanced technologies and effective techniques. Following to this Kishan Reddy said, “This achievement will fuel our increasing power demands, drive economic growth, and ensure a brighter future for every Indian.”
The current fiscal year’s goal for coal production and offtake is 1,080 million tonnes, as stated in the Ministry of Coal Action Plan FY 2024-25.
