Hanumankind: During the 120th episode of his monthly radio show “Mann Ki Baat,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Kerala-born rapper Sooraj Cherukat, also known as Hanumankind, for showcasing traditional martial arts like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta in his new song “Run It Up.” He also acknowledged how popular the rapper’s song has become in recent years.
He said, “Our indigenous games are now becoming a part of popular culture. The new song of the renowned rapper Hanumankind, ‘Run It Up’, is becoming quite famous these days. Our traditional Martial Arts like Kalari-payattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta have been included in it.” In the conclusion, he said, “I congratulate Hanumankind that due to his efforts, people of the world are getting to know about our traditional martial arts.”
For the third consecutive week, Hanumankind’s most recent single, “Run It Up,” has topped the Official Asian Music Chart. The enormous success of the rapper’s song “Big Dawgs,” which set records all over the world thanks to its catchy beats and cinematic vision, propelled his ascent to stardom. On Spotify’s Top 50, his breakthrough single even momentarily overtook Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Following Hanumankind’s performance at the Nassau Coliseum in front of a large crowd that included the Prime Minister and representatives of the Indian diaspora, PM Modi met him at an event in New York on September 22 of last year. One widely shared video showed Hanumankind singing his hit song “Big Dawgs” in front of the prime minister.
