Telangana’s ambitious project of Telangana Development; airports has taken one step forward with a decision to select a new site for the airport in Peddapalli district. The project, initially conceived at Basantnagar, has now been shifted to Antargaon mandal due to adverse weather conditions and technical constraints at the site of origin.
After a careful assessment, the authorities identified about 591 acres of land in Antargaon mandal as a suitable site for the airport. A careful study, involving decade-wise weather data and land feasibility mapping, supported the decision. The selected site offers good aviation facility conditions with possibilities to purchase additional land if required.
Government’s vision to develop aviation connectivity
The Telangana government is seriously working towards developing air travel in the state. Besides the Peddapalli airport, new airports are planned to be set up at Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Adilabad, Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad. The proposals have been formally submitted to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to obtain their approval and sanction for the proposals.
Basantnagar possesses a 260-acre airstrip that was operational almost five decades ago. Although it has remained non-operational for decades. The state government is mulling reopening it and another defunct airstrip at Mamunur in Warangal.
Economic and Connectivity Benefits
Inclusion of Telangana airports will most likely increase the regional connectivity to a great extent. Facilitate economic growth and reduce pressure from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Improved travel options will be available for businesses, tourism and locals, which would make air travel more convenient and efficient.
The decision to construct a new airport site at Peddapalli is one of the key milestones for Telangana’s initiative in aviation development. With proper planning and government support, the project will increase air connectivity and help in overall state development. As the feasibility studies proceed, citizens can look forward to improved infrastructure and more travel options.
