1. Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project
The much-awaited Visakhapatnam Metro is finally gaining shape. Spanning 76.9 km in three corridors in Phase 1, the ₹14,000 crore project is set to end traffic snarls and bring in eco-friendly urban mobility. The works will begin towards the end of 2025, and it will be finished by 2029.
2. Bhogapuram International Airport
Situated near Vizianagaram, the Bhogapuram International Airport will be a major air hub in the region. Built by GMR Group, the ₹4,592 crore project will alleviate air traffic congestion from Vizag and serve over 6 million passengers annually in its first phase. The airport will become operational by 2026.
3. Machilipatnam Port Development
Reviving the old sea-port city of Machilipatnam, this ₹5,155 crore deep-water port development project was initiated to boost trade. And also reduce logistic costs, and create jobs for thousands of people. The port will handle coal, fertilizers, and container cargo, and work has already begun with phase one due for delivery by 2026.
4. Amaravati–Anantapur Expressway
Improving intra-state connectivity and reducing travel times between western and central Andhra Pradesh, the 417 km greenfield expressway is a mega project with an estimated cost of ₹27,635 crore to promote industrial and logistic centres along the way.
5. Kakinada SEZ and Industrial Corridor
As part of the massive East Coast Economic Corridor, the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will provide space for petrochemical, manufacturing, and IT industries. Financed heavily by public as well as private sectors, the project will generate widespread employment and economic growth along the coastal strip.
