5 Major Reasons Behind Vijay Thalapathy Rally Stampede

Vijay Thalapathy Rally Stampede: G Venkataraman, the top police officer in Tamil Nadu, has stated that an unmanageable surge of supporters resulted from actor-politician Vijay’s arrival at his rally being delayed by seven hours. A stampede at a political event hosted by Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Karur on Saturday resulted in at least 39 fatalities and about 100 injuries.

During a late-night press conference, Mr. Venkataraman stated that although the organizers had anticipated 10,000 attendees, over 27,000 showed up. According to him, 500 people were sent out for the rally. “Earlier rallies of TVK had smaller crowds, but this time the turnout was far higher than expected,” stated Venkataraman.

He further highlighted the following lapses that contributed to the tragedy:

1. Delay in Vijay’s Arrival: In the announcement TVK party has clearly mentioned that Vijay is going to arrive by 12.PM in the venue, but as the crowd came in huge numbers, he reached around 7.40 p.m. This made so many people wait in the venue and causing a claustrophobic situation.

2. Mismatch in Permissions and Schedule: Rally permission was granted for 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., but supporters began arriving as early as 11 a.m. due to the announcement on social media.

3. Overcrowding Beyond Expectation: Organizers expected 10,000 people, but the turnout was more than 27,000, making the situation unmanageable. It is said that even the police team didn’t expect this much of a crowd, which changed the entire security scenario during the rally.

4. Lack of Food and Water: As the rally was conducted without any proper preparation, there was a lack of basic amenities like food and water. People might not expect food, but at least water should have been provided properly.

5. Inadequate Crowd Management: With only 500 police personnel deployed for such a massive gathering, the crowd became uncontrollable.

In the viral videos, Vijay clearly asks for assistance from the police to manage the crowd. At one point, he also throws water bottles for the fans from his vehicle as they are feeling dizzy and claustrophobic.
