Why People are protesting in Bangladesh:
On Saturday, around one million demonstrators gathered in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, to express disapproval of Israel’s operations in the Gaza Strip. Tens of thousands of demonstrators reportedly assembled on Saturday at Suhrawardy Park, which is near Dhaka University.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, the masses spontaneously participated in the program since political parties, Islamic scholars, and individuals from all walks of life had already supported it.
Islamist organizations and parties also supported the march, as did the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Social media user “A human flood in the streets of Bangladesh in support of the people of Gaza,” posted beside a video of a sea of people waving Palestinian flags.
Another video showed individuals wearing masks of Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump. During the event, effigies and symbolic coffins representing civilian victims were carried. In the meantime, on social media sites, hashtags including #FreePalestine, #MarchForGaza, #palestinesolidaritymovementbangladesh, and #Bangladesh_for_Palestine were extensively shared.

What are they expecting from this protest?
Four demands were made by hundreds of thousands of people united under the banner of the “Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh,” as well as representatives of religious and political platforms. The Dhaka Tribune reports that among their requests were:
1. An immediate stop to Gaza’s mass murders, not merely a ceasefire
2. Israel’s International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecution
3. Muslim governments cutting off all military, economic, and diplomatic relations with Israel
4. The prompt implementation of boycotts and trade restrictions.

According to the report, the campaign also demanded that the government of Bangladesh declare its reluctance to recognize Israel, reinstall the “Except Israel” condition on Bangladeshi passports, and move quickly to deliver humanitarian and medical help to Gaza.
They also called for changes to the national education program that would incorporate Al-Aqsa, Palestinian history, and the tradition of Muslim resistance.
Movement for Palestine Solidarity. To encourage people to bring the spirit of Gaza into their homes, education, culture, and economy, Bangladesh also called for a national boycott of businesses, goods, and services that either directly or indirectly support Israel’s activities.
