Laila Movie Review: Laila found itself entangled in the web of controversy after actor Prudhvi made some politically charged comments during the film’s pre-release event. Despite Viswaksen’s attempts to clear the air, the film was subject to social media backlash and many even called for a boycott. Actors and filmmakers must understand that controversy is temporary and content is permanent. Starring Viswaksen and Aakanksha Sharma in the lead roles, LAILA was released today on Valentine’s Day amid so much expectation, only to disappoint the viewers. The controversy surrounding the film might have created a little buzz, but the content of the film failed to engage the audience. Read LAILA review here.
Story:
Sonu (Vishwak Sen), a beauty parlour owner, is known for his makeup skills and is widely admired by women in his neighborhood. His life takes a dramatic turn when he locks horns with a local rowdy Rustum(Abhimanyu Singh) and SI Shankar( Prithviraj). To escape from the clash, he disguise himself as a woman, a new identity that creates uproarious chaos. In the tangle of mistaken identities is Sonu and Jenny’s love story. The rest of the story is about how this new transformation unfolds and where it leads.
Review:
Except for comedy in the first half, there’s nothing that excites the audience. Production values appear good. A few songs and their picturization are decent. The second half is a test of patience. Illogical comedy and double-meaning dialogues are outdated. Other key roles in the movie, Abhimanyu Singh and Prithvi failed to entertain. Other characters just exist for their namesake and create no impact. Director Ram Narayan failed to build an engaging narrative.
Plus Points:
Viswaksen is brilliant as Sonu and Laila. While he tried hard to generate laughs, it failed to engage the viewers. Overall production looks good. Whatever the producer has spent is visible on the screen.
Minus Points:
Comedy is irrelevant, illogical, and outdated. The film misses an engaging premise and decent performances which could have attracted audiences.
