Sitare Zameen Par Review: After all those years of being in the background and a brief acting hiatus, Aamir Khan returns in Sitare Zameen Par, spiritual sequel to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film once again tackles children, emotions, and transformation—but now with a sports and self-confidence angle. Released in the middle of much publicity and comparisons, does Sitare Zameen Par manage to repeat the same emotional spell? Let’s see.
The movie is about a group of kids with unsavory backgrounds or troubled histories going to a special residential school. Aamir Khan plays a bumbling, ardent football coach who believes that sport has the power to transform lives. Through training, guidance, and rough handling, he makes the children believe in themselves and unlock their hidden potential. The narrative takes the Chak De India-meets-Taare Zameen Par tone but gives it some fresh emotional turns.
A traumatized and abandoned young boy, Aryan, is the emotional core of the film. His transformation from believing in others to believing in himself, aided by Aamir’s character, is a part of the heartwarming theme of the film.
RS Prasanna handles the film softly and unobtrusively, ensuring the emotional core remains intact even when the rest of the film stalls. However, the storyline takes quite a predictable path with tropes that resonate with everyone who has seen sports dramas or inspirational films. Even so, the performance especially from the children, is natural and quite moving. Aamir Khan, as expected, brings gravity and energy to the role that he clearly identifies with.
The plus points of this film are its uplifting message, soulful music, and heart-wrenching scenes. The script, albeit formulaic, touches audiences on an emotional plane.

Formulaic plot with little surprises
Second-half pace suffers from slowness
Overweight emotional tone may not be for every viewer
Sitare Zameen Par is an emotional ride with good intentions. While it falls a little short of the brilliance of Taare Zameen Par, it has sufficient heart and hope to move people, more so families and children.
Rating: 2.25/5 – Sitare Zameen Par is a winner of a film that reminds us gently why one should have faith in a human being and how it can transform their world.
