Vidaamuyarchi, starring Ajith Kumar, is all se to make it’s grand theatrical worldwide debut in Pongal 2025, however it was lately the subject of speculations that it was having legal issues. The film’s makers have now finally addressed the ongoing plagiarism controversy and stated that they have not received any such legal notice from Hollywood.
In a recent conversation with a media Vidaamuyarchi makers, Lyca Productions revealed that the production company hasn’t received any sort of legal notice for plagiarism by the Breakdown producers Dino De Laurentiis and Martha De Laurentiis. Subaskaran Allirajah of Lyca Productions said that they have a lot of experience making movies and understand how intellectual property rights operate and rumors are baseless.

Previously, there were rumors speculated that the action thriller starring Ajith Kumar was a remake of the Hollywood road thriller 2002 movie Breakdown, and that the former’s producers had not purchased the legitimate rights to the film. Post teaser release, online discussion and rumors of a legal dispute resulted from this, however it appears that the rumors have been put to rest.

Now makers finally reacted to the ongoing rumors and confirmed that Vidaamuyarchi is not a remake of Breakdown and also ridiculed the rumors by stating that the amount of money being cited in them is so enormous that no one would purchase it. The report also discussed the visual similarities between the teaser for Vidaamuyarchi and the Kurt Russell 2002 film Breakdown.

Breakdown follows a man and his wife who are driving cross-country from Massachusetts to San Diego when their new car mysteriously breaks down. A truck driver stops and assists them by taking his wife to the nearest diner to phone for help but in reality is kidnapping her, causing her husband to track down his wife and the kidnapper himself, however recently released Vidaamuyarchi teaser is quite similar to the film.
