The ED has been investigating a money laundering fraud related to diversion of Tamil Nadu state-owned liquor distribution chain, Tasmac funds. The fraud is said to have been carried out by government officials, liquor distributers, and middlemen with clout. During the course of investigation, officials reportedly discovered accounts of massive payments made to public figures for events allegedly sponsored by diverted funds.
One of these payments worth Rs 35 lakh was tracked to an event in which Kayadu Lohar had been present, the officials mentioned. The authorities are now trying to determine if the amount paid to her was part of the scam money.
