Hansika Motwani vs. Sister-in-Law: Actress Hansika Motwani and her mother Jyoti Motwani, have approached the Bombay High Court to dismiss a case filed against them under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case was lodged by Hansika’s sister-in-law Muskan James accusing them of cruelty.
A division bench including Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice SM Modak issued a notice regarding their plea on Thursday and scheduled the next hearing for July 3.
Hansika and Jyoti secured anticipatory bail in February 2025.
Following this, they approached the Bombay High Court and requested the court to quash the FIR.
Hansika claims that Muskan filed the complaint out of personal disputes. According to the plea, Hansika lent ₹27 lakh to Muskan and Prashant for their wedding expenses, but they refused to repay the amount. She argues that Muskan filed the FIR as revenge after she demanded repayment.
Her petition asserts that the criminal case is an exaggerated reaction to a marital dispute between Muskan and Prashant.
Hansika maintains that she had no direct involvement in their marital issues and claims that the case includes her only because she is Prashant’s sister.
“The FIR appears to be a retaliatory move to pressure the petitioner into a financial settlement,” her plea states. Additionally, the petition claims that Muskan rejected a mutual divorce and is using the legal case as leverage in the ongoing matrimonial dispute.
Hansika Motwani vs. Sister-in-Law: Advocate Drishti Khurana filed Hansika’s petition, while advocate Adnan Shaikh represents her mother, Jyoti Motwani.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 3 to decide whether to quash the FIR.
