High Court to Review HAAL Movie Amid Ongoing Controversy

HAAL Movie: The controversy surrounding the Malayalam film Haal has taken a new turn as the Kerala High Court has now decided to view the film personally instead of continuing to decide the matter. Justice V.G Arun will see the film for the first time on Saturday, next week at 7 P.M., in a private studio in Kakkanad, Kochi.

High Court to Review HAAL Movie Amid Ongoing Controversy

This comes after a complaint was made by the Catholic Congress claiming that the film has some objectionable scenes and dialogues that can hurt the religious sentiments. Representatives from Catholic Congress are expected to attend the special screening together with officials from Central board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Next Steps After the Screening-The court has said that further action on the case will be determined after viewing the film in its entirety-set up so that judgment will be made in open-wise direct access rather than assumption or second-hand reports.

Haal, directed by an independent filmmaker, has drawn much attention since the time of its trailer launch, inviting a number of calls demanding a review of its contents. The filmmakers, however, have maintained that this movie is a fictional work and does not aim at targeting any religious or social group.

This promotion in the High Court to view the movie is seen as a prudential and transparent move in this regard, for a balance of judgments between artistic freedom and sensitivity of communities.
