Indian legendary tabla player, composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco, USA due to complications arising from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
The greatest exponents in the stream of instrumental music, Zakir Hussain has sadly passed away a short while back. The Tabla maestro, 73, reportedly died of a heart issue.Mr. Hussain had been struggling with a heart related ailment for the last few years. He was being treated at a hospital in San Francisco for the prevailing condition.
However, his vital parameters kept deteriorating alarmingly before he sadly passed away a short while back. According the reports the legendary tabla player passed away at hospital in San Francisco, Monday morning. Singer’s family confirmed his death on Monday, his family’s released an official statement, saying, “He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come.”
Zakir Hussain is considers as one of the last maestros who are synonymous with a musical instrument. His Tabla skills were unlike any other, and he is widely regarded as the most gifted Tabla player in history. He is one of the most celebrated musicians in India.
In 1999, Hussain has received seven Grammy nominations, with four wins, including three in 2024. He is a recipient of Padma Shri Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. He also holds the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award; India’s highest recognition in music. The musical world now mourns the passing of this legend.
Hussain was also awarded the Government of India’s Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, Ratna Sadsya in 2018. He Hussain was awarded the United States National Endowment for the Arts’ National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists and musicians.
